Tatu Ritual
I practice tatu as a rite of passage and initiation. As an honoring of what wants to be seen and carried.
Grounded in a background of bodywork, women’s wellness, and informed consent, I approach each session with thoughtful intention. Navigating the intersections of deep pain and pleasure requires that body, mind, and spirit are held in a space of genuine safety and trust. I aim to cultivate an environment where you can fully surrender to receive. This is the essence of kairos, a term often used in chiropractic and somatic fields to describe a critical moment or window of opportunity when profound change and healing can occur.
Each ritual is a collaborative and tailored experience, designed to bring specific intentions into being. I love worshiping the body’s unique shapes, curves, and landscapes by accentuating them through carefully crafted lines and sigils. My approach emphasizes enhancing the body’s inherent forms celebrating existing beauty, including scars and stretch marks, and weaving them into the narrative rather than concealing them.
We don’t always get a choice of what happens to our bodies in this life. Tatu can be a powerful way of claiming for yourself fully what you desire.
Tatu is a multi-dimensional act. While it’s deeply ceremonial and symbolic, it also works on a very physical and biological level. The process of receiving ink shapes the journey forward, as scars are complex biological structures of connective tissue serving as vessels of cellular memory. This is a space to encode upon these living tissues the prayers and intentions you wish to carry throughout your life. Every time the needle touches the skin, your body responds. Immune cells rush to the site, opening a cascade of healing. It activates the nervous system, lymphatic system, endocrine system, and cardiovascular system. It can increase circulation, reduces inflammation, and can support the movement and release of trauma held in the tissues.
In many ways, tatu mimics the effects of acupuncture or microneedling. It stimulates key meridian points and energetic lines that correlate to emotional, organ, and system-level imbalances. When done with presence and intention, these marks become more than visual. They become somatic tools for integration. When we approach it with reverence, the body recognizes it not as harm, but as communication. A mark. A moment. A message. A medicine.
Ancestral practices often speak to tatu as a form of immune building. In many Indigenous traditions, breast milk was used as one of the main ingredients for ink. Infused into the skin as both a life giving offering and a way to seed immunity into the body. It speaks to a time when tatu wasn’t aesthetic, but medicinal and sacred. Woven into the rites of birth, grief, puberty, survival, and prayer.
I believe the moment the needle meets the skin is an opening. A chance to clear old energy and replace it with the invocation you want to encode upon your body. It is an ancient medicine I carry in a modern form, and I’m continually humbled and in awe by how much it gives back.
It is a profound honor to engage in this transformative work. I regard each individual as a living temple and offer my artistry with full presence and reverence.
